Requirements
- Deosai National Park is a high-altitude wilderness area, with the plateau averaging approximately 4,114 metres (13,497 feet) above sea level. Travellers should be prepared for reduced oxygen levels and rapidly changing weather.
- The Deosai route is seasonal and is generally accessible only during the warmer months after the winter snow has cleared. Opening and closing dates depend on snow conditions, weather, road conditions and official restrictions.
- Access to Deosai Plains is subject to road and weather conditions. The route may be closed or altered if conditions make travel unsafe.
- The safari is conducted by 4x4 jeep because the roads and tracks across Deosai can be rough, uneven and unpaved.
- Wildlife sightings, including Himalayan brown bears, are not guaranteed. Deosai is a protected natural habitat, and animals must never be approached, chased, fed or disturbed.
- Visitors must follow all Deosai National Park regulations and instructions from park authorities, guides and drivers.
- Do not leave rubbish in the park. All waste should be carried back and disposed of responsibly.
- Camping, walking and stopping are subject to park regulations and designated areas.
- Weather can change rapidly at high altitude. Rain, strong winds, fog, hail and even snowfall may occur during the summer season.
- Warm, waterproof and windproof clothing is essential, even during the warmer months.
- Good-quality walking shoes or hiking boots are recommended for short walks around lakes and other natural viewpoints.
- Sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat and other sun protection are strongly recommended because ultraviolet exposure is intense at high altitude.
- Travellers should carry sufficient personal medication and any essential prescriptions.
- Travellers with little experience at high altitude should allow adequate time for acclimatisation before reaching Deosai.
- Symptoms such as severe headache, dizziness, unusual shortness of breath, nausea or confusion should be reported immediately to the guide. If necessary, the itinerary may need to be changed and the traveller taken to a lower altitude.
- Mobile phone coverage can be limited or unavailable across parts of Deosai Plains.
- Medical and emergency facilities are extremely limited inside the park. Appropriate travel insurance with emergency evacuation coverage is strongly recommended.
- Travellers should remain with the group and follow the guide's instructions, particularly when walking away from the vehicle or approaching wildlife areas.
- Photography and drone use may be subject to national park regulations and other applicable restrictions.
- The itinerary may be modified because of weather, snowfall, road closures, park restrictions, security conditions or other circumstances beyond the control of Hunza Explorers.
