Exclusions
- Visa Fee: The cost associated with obtaining the mountaineering visa is not covered in our services.
- Insurance: Participants are responsible for securing their own travel and health insurance coverage for the duration of the expedition.
- Heli Rescue Fee (if needed): In the event of a helicopter rescue, the associated fees are not included and will be the responsibility of the participant.
- Wages for High-Altitude Guides and Porters: While we provide high-altitude guides and porters upon request, their wages are not included in the expedition package and should be covered separately.
Requirements
- Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Pakistan.
- A valid Pakistan mountaineering visa is required before arrival.
- Climbers must obtain an official climbing permit issued by the Government of Pakistan. Hunza Explorers will assist with the application process.
- This expedition is intended for experienced high-altitude mountaineers only.
- Previous experience on technical alpine climbs and high-altitude expeditions is essential.
- Experience on at least one 7,000-metre or 8,000-metre mountain is strongly recommended before attempting K2.
- Climbers must be proficient in glacier travel, rope techniques, crevasse rescue and the use of technical mountaineering equipment.
- Excellent physical fitness, endurance and acclimatisation are essential.
- The expedition can only be operated during the official climbing season and in accordance with Government of Pakistan regulations.
- The normal climbing season is from June to August, although exact operational dates depend on weather and permit availability.
- Summit success can never be guaranteed and depends entirely on weather conditions, avalanche risk, route conditions and the climber's physical condition.
- Expedition itineraries may change due to weather, road conditions, flight schedules, government regulations or safety considerations.
- Comprehensive mountaineering insurance covering technical climbing above 8,000 metres and emergency helicopter evacuation is mandatory.
- Climbers must bring their own personal climbing equipment unless equipment rental has been arranged in advance.
- Mobile phone coverage is generally unavailable beyond Askole.
- Electricity is unavailable during the trekking approach. Limited charging facilities may be available at K2 Base Camp depending on the expedition setup.
- Respect local customs, environmental regulations and Leave No Trace principles throughout the expedition.
- Minimum Altitude: Approximately 540 metres (1,772 feet) in Islamabad.
- Maximum Altitude Reached: 8,611 metres (28,251 feet) at the summit of K2 (for successful summit climbers).
- Maximum Overnight Altitude: K2 Base Camp, approximately 5,150 metres (16,896 feet). Higher camps (Camp I, Camp II, Camp III and Camp IV) are used during the climbing phase as part of acclimatisation and summit rotations. Their use and overnight elevations depend on the expedition strategy and climbing progress.
